Philosophy of History
Philosophy examines whether identifiable human progress has been made within documented/recorded history. Indeed, what do we mean by PROGRESS? What features of History count as possible areas of well- being/advancement for human beings? Bertrand Russell called philosophy the History of Ideas--central to understanding and evaluation of human progress. Rather sceptical in essence but well argued...
We will also consider a variety of points made by philosophers Hegel, Popper, Durant, Harari (present times);as well as theological claims/explanations .We are all influenced of course by present world crises---politics, wars, famines, climate change, technology etc..which might influence our point of view.
I have an interesting handout sheet to stimulate discussion too! should be interesting. We are all part of history of course and have personal accounts....Hope you can attend. Coffee and biscuits at half time.
Regards, John

Somethings for you to think about from John, links to the articles are below
Philosophy is a fascinating and thought-provoking subject to study. It sets out to examine ideas behind why we exist and how we should best morally lead our lives. Many of the topics include aspects of ethics, politics, divinity and art that prove a basis for much interesting discussion. We refer to concepts of philosophical writers from Aristotle to John Locke. It does improve your general awareness and method of thinking about important matters.
