Philosophy of History
On this topic, philosophy examines whether identifiable human progress has been made within the documented history we have,Indeed, what do we mean by progress?;what features of history count as possible areas of wellbeing/advancement for human beings?
Bertrand Russell called Philosophy, The history of ideas---,central to any understanding of human behaviour; we will consider points made by Popper, Durant, Harari, Hegel---as well as theological claims/explanations..
And don't we all have a personal history to evaluate?( only for the brave)
How are we all affected by present world politics, famines, wars, disasters, technology etc?Should be an interesting debate. I have a handout sheet too.
Coffee at half time. Hope you can make it. Regards, John

1st Tuesday of the month in Mawdesley Village Hall 10.00 - 12.00
Somethings for you to think about from John, links to the articles are below
Philosophy is a fascinating and thought-provoking subject to study. It sets out to examine ideas behind why we exist and how we should best morally lead our lives. Many of the topics include aspects of ethics, politics, divinity and art that prove a basis for much interesting discussion. We refer to concepts of philosophical writers from Aristotle to John Locke. It does improve your general awareness and method of thinking about important matters.
