French Conversation 2026 - Discovering France and French culture.

The next meetings will be: 25/09/26, 23/10/26, 27/11/26, and 11/12/26. All are on Fridays, 10.00-11.30 in the MVH lounge.

25 September, Practising French conversation, then Le Périgord - I would like to take you on a journey to a part of France which, for many British people, has become almost a second home. Opportunity to share your thoughts and discuss Le Périgord.

27 November, All about Beaujolais and the famous Beaujolais run.

In September, it will be seven years since I took on the role of Group Leader for French Conversation. It has been a real pleasure, and I would like to thank everyone who has contributed presentations, offered support, and helped make the group so enjoyable over the years. In 2027, I will be 80, and with diminishing levels of energy, I have decided to step down. I will continue as Group Leader up to the end of 2026 when I hope someone will step forward with new ideas and take on the challenge of this role. Before I step down, I will be available to help a new Group Leader.

Room rental costs have recently increased, so it is necessary to charge £4.00 per session, payable at the door.

As usual, the presentation will be projected on the large TV screen in the Lounge in French with a translation into English.  So, if your French is a little rusty you would still be able follow it.  Contact Adrian Dean 07989 343503.

We will continue to review the group's format to keep it fresh, but any suggestions would be gratefully received. At each conversation, we will include useful phrases and vocabulary for your French trips. There are many potential situations, so during the year, we will cover the ones you are most likely to encounter. This will be useful even if you only have a smattering of French because we will also practise pronunciation.

The French Conversation Group is aimed at people with at least some knowledge of French.  Our current membership ranges from approximately intermediate level to fully fluent.  We are a friendly group and work on the basis that there is no disgrace in not knowing something because, in the tradition of u3a, we help each other with grammar, vocabulary and expression.  Indeed, part of the fun is learning from one another.   

We will, of course, continue with French culture, gastronomy, wine, places to visit and all things French during our conversations. Text in both French and English is provided on the lounge screen when we do presentations.

As always, we are delighted to receive contributions from u3a members. Contributions may be on any subject. Some have already contributed but we need more. If you would like to contribute, please contact Adrian so it may be included in our programme.
