Review from another U3A.......

Frank Vigon delivered a talk titled 'The History of Advertising' to members of Clitheroe u3a at St. Mary’s Hall, which was described as both entertaining and thought-provoking. His presentation aimed to 'unpick the very influential world of Vance Packard’s ‘Hidden Persuaders’' and explored how advertisers target human weaknesses such as 'hunger, greed, sex and envy and all of the five senses – to make us BUY!'. Vigon traced the history of advertising from ancient times to the present day, highlighting how modern advertisers 'leave no stone unturned, invading our world, from street to television, from television to iphone, from iphone to Alexa and into the very recesses of our minds!'. The talk was enriched with numerous photographs, many of which were enhanced with sound and movement, and was noted for its lively delivery and technical expertise.
